Canteen

　香港から広州まで直通で約１時間半の旅。帰りはちょうどお昼時だったので、食堂車で2度めのお昼ご飯をとる。お客さんが引いた頃に、一斉に１５人ほどの車掌さんがどやどやと食堂車に集まってくる。どうもお昼休みらしい。車窓を見る振りをして、車掌さんたちの昼食をチェック。注）白飯だけではありません。この後４人で６種類ものおかずを平らげていました。

There are direct trains to Guangzhou, which takes only one and a half hours. On the way back, it was lunch time so we wanted to try out the food carriage. By the time we finished a dish of squid and brocolli, around 15 ticket inspectors came to get their lunch. I was pretending to see the view from the window but I checked ticket inspectors' lunch. The first thing they did was moved the table cloth back to save the cleaning. It was not only the rice bowl, each table of four shared 6 dishes, which were not on our menu but we had eaten enough by then.
